A Partnership in Career Readiness

We understand that we all play an important role in the career readiness and successful outcomes of students in the College of Business. The Career Management Center (CMC) is just one of many places where career conversations take place. Our appreciation for you as a partner and champion of career development runs deep. Thank you! Here are some specific ways in which we can continue to collaborate on supporting student preparation and success for business students.

Engaging Students in Career Readiness

Enhancing students’ career readiness is at the heart of the Career Management Center’s mission. We prioritize the development of CSU’s Career Competencies, reflecting NACE Career Readiness Competencies, for a smooth transition to the workforce. As a trusted advisor in the college-to-career journey, you play a crucial role in guiding students. Explore our resources and tools to share with your students, classes, and clubs. Consider adding a syllabus statement to encourage career-readiness.

Featured resources to share with students:

Equitable Access to Opportunities

Former students and industry contacts may ask you to share internship and job opportunities with current Rams. These connections are valuable and appreciated! By collaborating with our office in these instances, we can promote the use of Handshake for all postings, which increases access and equity for all students in the College of Business. This approach supports CSU’s Student Success Initiatives to eliminate opportunity gaps, and also meets the NACE guidelines for equity. On the employer side, it bolsters recruitment efforts by expanding and diversifying candidate pools.

Corporate Relationships

Relationships with companies, organizations, and alumni are an essential part of connecting students with opportunities for internships and jobs. As we each cultivate and nurture networking partnerships for student recruitment, advisory boards, mentoring, sponsorships, and experiential learning projects, we invite you to consider strategic introductions throughout our faculty and staff community for the benefit of creating broader engagement across the College. We welcome the opportunity to engage your corporate or alumni partners in the career readiness of students while at the same time finding ways to integrate our partners in your classroom signature experiences.

Industry Trends

Industry and economic trends can shift quickly at local, national, and global levels. We are committed to keeping a strong pulse on the job market and the future of work as it relates to business students and their job prospects. We also understand the impact shifting trends have on curriculum and the academic preparation of students. Thus, we value a shared learning approach and invite you to include the CMC in any updated programming changes that impact students while we commit to sharing recruiting trends that reflect a changing job market.

Outcomes

Demonstrated by our College accreditation and rankings’ achievements, student outcomes are critical to our success as a business school. The successful outcomes of our students are also a vital component for recruiting the next generation of business students. By partnering on the collection of First Destination data, you can help the CMC in tracking the plans secured rates, internship rates, and starting salaries of graduates. With the most up-to-date and comprehensive data, we can support your department with information to move your recruitment initiatives forward.
