AI For Your Career

You can strategically leverage artificial intelligence (AI) in your career development. From exploring different job titles and understanding typical tasks and skills needed for a particular career, to developing your application materials and practicing interview questions, AI can help you generate ideas and gather information.

Important Considerations

Generative AI tools are fast-developing and rapidly changing. Here are a few elements to give thought when using this technology for your career planning and development:

  • Be careful of sharing information and data. Avoid sharing personal, confidential, proprietary, or sensitive information with generative AI tools. The input could be integrated into the large language models.
  • Use AI tools to strengthen your work, not create it. While it may be easy to ask AI to write your resume, it is important that application documents are an accurate reflection of your experience, interests, and abilities. Start by submitting your own work and using generative AI tools to review, suggest, adapt, and reflect.
  • Validate the output for accuracy. Generative AI can make mistakes and could fabricate/create information in the absence of details. You do not want false information included on your resume! Always review the output for accuracy; enhance and adapt it to accurately represent you and your abilities.
  • Have a conversation. Improve the output with follow-up questions and by probing further. Drive in on elements of the responses that are most helpful.
