Job summary
The Application Developer/Administrator intern works under general supervision and will develop, test, analyze, and assist with maintaining software applications to support the business objectives. Additionally, this individual may have tasks in business analysis or data science work that supports business objectives.
This internship is based at Platte River’s headquarters location in Fort Collins. This intern may select from one of the following scheduling options: 3 months at 40 hours per week, OR 9 months at 29 or less hours per week.

Essential duties and responsibilities
- Under direct supervision and guidance works with third party and internally developed software applications throughout lifecycle to ensure proper functionality, usability, reliability, security and performance.
- Programs software applications according to specific defined standards, specifications and schedules.
- Develops scripts/code to enhance functionality of applications and reviews with leading IT staff prior to production release.
- Assist with research, design, documentation, and modifications of software to customer specifications throughout software production life cycle.
- Assist with monitors, debugs, and modification of applications to aide in improvement of performance and reliability.
- Installs and configures software for end users, providing necessary training as required.
- Assists other IT staff and customers to define specifications; schedules and implements patches, releases or upgrades and assist with troubleshooting issues.
- Assists with the creation of documentation that is reviewed by leading IT staff.
- Provides daily assistance to other technology team members.
- Assists on various technology projects.
Other functions
- Assists the help desk technicians in resolving tickets.
- Performs other duties as assigned
Knowledge, skills and abilities
- Basic understanding of structure query language (SQL) with ability to create SQL queries and assist with development of reports that join data from multiple data locations.
- Programming knowledge with basic knowledge of coding methods and best practice
- Ability to learn and assimilate new technologies
- Ability to perform as a team member with desire to learn and contribute to the project management framework
- Strong communication, interpersonal, and collaboration skills that foster productive working relationships.
- Ability to be motivated and willing to work with general supervision and take feedback for learning
Qualifications
Required education and experience
- Currently pursuing a bachelor’s degree in the field of computer science, information systems, or software engineering.
- Experience working with Microsoft platforms.
- Experience working in the information technology field.
Physical demands
- Light to moderate physical effort that includes frequent standing or walking or maintaining arms and hands in the same position for repetitive tasks. Frequently works with light objects and light hand tools.
Hazards
- Minimal exposure to hazards are typically found in general office environment where there is rarely to no exposure to injury or accident
Work environment
- Exposure to routine office noise and equipment
Pay range for internship: $20 to $25 per hour
This position is classified as variable-hour and is not benefits-eligible. Factors that may be used to determine actual salary include specific skills, years of experience, education and certifications.
