Where to Apply for Jobs and Internships
When searching for jobs and internships, you’ll often see the same position listed on multiple platforms. But does it matter where you apply? It can!
The Company’s Official Careers Site
Applying directly through a company’s careers site ensures your application goes into their ATS and is accessible to recruiters. Some employers only consider applications submitted this way.
Have you seen a LinkedIn job post with hundreds or thousands of applicants in hours? Those numbers often reflect clicks, not actual applications. If the “apply” button redirects you to the company site, the real applicant count may be much lower, so don’t be discouraged from applying.
Online Job Boards that Direct You to Company Sites
Similar to LinkedIn, job platforms like Handshake and Indeed list roles but often redirect you to apply on the employer’s site. These platforms are great for finding a variety of opportunities. Browse a variety of online job boards at the bottom of this page.
Online Job Boards that Accept Direct Applications
Some employers accept applications directly on platforms like Handshake or Indeed, either alongside their careers site or as their primary method if they lack an ATS.
Platforms like LinkedIn offer “Easy Apply,” which is convenient but can limit the information recruiters see. Because it’s so easy, these jobs often attract more applicants. Some “Easy Apply” applications integrate with a company’s ATS, while others don’t.
If using a third-party platform, optimize your profile to stand out. Some companies only accept applications this way, so don’t ignore it—but when in doubt, check the company’s careers site to see if applying directly is an option.
