Summary of Responsibilities:

Supporting all functions of the US/LatAm Syndicate desk

List Major/Essential Job Duties:

  • Manage and prepare bond pricing spreadsheets, demonstrate the ability to compare borrowers and assess appropriate new issue pricing in conjunction with senior team member.
  • Track, compile and coordinate new USD investment grade and LatAm issuance information, provide analysis on interesting themes / trends.
  • Responsible for managing the desk (orderbook entries, marketing logistics, database management etc.).
  • Support the production of a daily market commentary that is sent out to internal and external stakeholders, including but not limited to BBVA product partners and clients.
  • On a daily basis, follow the US/LatAm market closely (across the major asset classes) to develop market mastery and prepare and collate macroeconomic, debt primary, and secondary market commentary.
  • Provide ad hoc reports for management and senior team on transactions such as details and involvement.
  • Assist with thematic projects or initiatives relevant to clients, including but not limited to, preparation of analyses for clients that consider currency, tenor, size, taxes, accounting implications in order to identify funding opportunities.
  • Manage and track administrative projects such as: third party subscriptions, proper mapping of client accounts, and costs incurred by the business line.
  • Assist in all phases of the marketing and execution of bond transactions when BBVA is actively leading the deal. This includes preparation of marketing materials such as Sales Memos, assisting on presentations, providing analysis, as well as post execution reconciliation.
  • Work with Sales and Trading on a daily basis to remain informed on secondary market news, as well as inform them on primary transactions that are taking place. In addition, work with sales to identify, track and analyze the bond investor base.
  • In addition to providing market commentary, work with capital market origination teams (DCM) in a proactive manner to support them in the origination effort.
  • Participate in client meetings with bankers to promote the BBVA global credit platform.

Level of Complexity and Risk Involved:

Executing transactions is highly complex, and specialized. Must be able to work efficiently in a stressful, high stakes environment. Lapses in detail or judgement during execution can have direct P&L and/or reputational effect.

Skills knowledge, abilities/Competencies:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of fixed income products, markets, and basic macroeconomics
  • Demonstrate understanding of the syndicate function and the willingness to act as a conscientious partner for a wide range of internal and external stakeholders
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to filter, summarize and share complex information, requests, and recommendations clearly
  • Quantitative analysis skills
  • High level of familiarity with excel, particularly data management. PowerPoint and Bloomberg experience will be viewed positively
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure in fast-paced environment with tight and evolving deadlines.
  • Demonstrate high attention to detail and a strong sense of ownership in one’s work in terms of accuracy and reliability
  • Solid problem-solving capabilities. Use own knowledge and desk resources to complete a wide range of internal and external requests.
  • Enthusiasm and a willingness to learn, independently and through internal partners
  • Interest and/or experience with AI will be viewed positively

Bachelor’s Degree required

Management Responsibilities:

No specific management responsibilities beyond managing time and work flow

With respect to this position in our New York Office, the expected base salary is $90,000.00. It is not typical for offers to be made at or near the top of the range. Salary offers are based on a wide range of factors including relevant skills, training, experience, education, and, where applicable, certifications obtained. Market and organizational factors are also considered. In addition to salary and a generous employee benefits package, successful candidates are eligible to receive a discretionary bonus.

*Employment eligibility to work with BBVA in the U.S. is required as the company will not pursue visa sponsorship for these positions.
