Career Exploration In the Bag! 💼🤩🌱

We’re just now wrapping up this spring’s last cohort of the Designing Your Career mini-course – what a wonderful adventure it’s been! Students have been exploring career options that fit them, discovering possibilities, and starting to try out their favorite choices.

If you’re having FOMO, here are a couple of things you can do to make career exploration progress on your own!

  1. Use AI! Plug any of the following prompts into your favorite Gen AI platform (probably ChatGPT?) and see what pops up!
    • “I’m getting a degree in ___ [major or field] and my favorite classes and interest areas in college are ___ [insert here]. Suggest career options that align with my academic background and interests.”
    • “I’m getting a degree in ___ [major or field] and my favorite classes and interest areas in college are [insert here]. Provide a list of 20 career options I could explore.”
    • “Identify potential career paths based on my skills in [list specific skills] and my interests in ___ [list specific interests]”
    • “Assess careers that align with my values, including ___ [list specific values], and help me achieve my goal of ___ [describe career goal].”
    • “I’m interested in the ___ [industry or sector] field. Could you provide insights into potential career trajectories within this industry?”
    • “I want to work on the following challenge ___ [insert problem you’d like to help solve in the world], I have ___ [insert skills], and am studying ___ [insert concentration]. What are 15 job titles that would fit?”
  2. Look at the What Can I Do With This Major link on your concentration page to explore some possibilities!
    • Just hover over the “Concentration Pathways” tab above, select your concentration, and then click “What Can I Do With This Major,” which lives right under the concentration description.
  3. Make a profile on Rams Connect and set up a conversation with someone working in the area you’re interested in.
  4. Sign up for the next cohort of Designing Your Career and join several other students in exploring your career possibilities!

At any point in your journey, remember that you’re welcome to come and chat with a career counselor in person or virtually (NOTE: we do have appointments available over the summer!) to talk about career options and how to move toward them. We are here for you!
