Marco* was just plain stressed. He was taking college classes but didn’t know what he wanted to do with his career. He had a couple general ideas! Had declared a concentration that related to an area of interest! But he didn’t know how to determine if he would actually like that possibility. Plus, weren’t there some other options?? But how on earth does one nail down their options in this age of endless possibilities? Understandably, Marco was overwhelmed.
I met Marco at a previous university when he popped into our career center for some support. I encouraged him to sign up for our career exploration mini-course, which he did. As Marco attended the course over the next few weeks, I got to know him and watched him explore his options with excitement. With some guidance, structure, and encouragement, he made incredible progress in determining the direction he wanted to take with his career.
If you can relate with any of Marco’s thoughts/concerns, the Designing Your Career mini-course is for you. In it, we’ll work to help students consider what roles/industries/fields actually draw them in. We’ll dig into what makes people tick so that we have a better shot and understanding what will make them tick at work. And we’ll create space for you to start trying things out so that you aren’t just guessing and hoping for the best when you apply for internships and jobs in the coming semesters.
Register for this engaging four-week mini-course and see what happens! Oh, and eat some pizza while you’re at it (we’re providing pizza since we’re meeting around dinner time).
